The Swedish automaker Volvo is all set to launch its premium sedan model Volvo S90 in the Indian auto market. The company has already started its advanced bookings and the vehicle will be officially launched in the Indian market in the coming festive season this year. The all new Volvo S90 will replace S80 Sedan in the Indian market and it will compete with Audi A6, Mercedes Benz E Class and BMW 5 Series. The vehicle is built on SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform which includes latest designs and technology and it shares some styling features with sibling XC90. As the vehicle is going to replace ageing Volvo S80 sedan, let’s have a deeper look to know what new things Volvo is going to offer with this car.

Engine & Specification

Initially Volvo XC90 will be launched only diesel engine optional with automatic transmission gearbox, but later this year launch of petrol and hybrid variants are also expected. Its base diesel model D4 will be equipped with the 2.0 Liter diesel engine which can generate 190 bhp of maximum power with 400 Nm of maximum torquewhile its more powerful top model D5 will be equipped with 2.4 Liter diesel engine which can generate maximum power of 235 bhp with 480 Nm of maximum torque. Both the engines will be integrated with 8-speed Aisin – Warner automatic transmission system. Apart from this, its is also expected that the company will launch the All Wheel Drive option as well with the D5 engine option.

On the other hand, the existing Volvo S80 sedan which is also available with similar capacity bit lacks in terms of power output. Its base D4 model is equipped with 2.0 Liter, 1969 cc diesel engine which can generates 181 bhp of maximum power while its top model D5 is equipped with 2.4 Liter, 2400 cc diesel engine generates 215 bhp of maximum power.

Acceleration & Performance

In terms of acceleration and performance the new Volvo S90 is going to beat its predecessor S80 sedan. The base variant of Volvo S80 which is equipped with 2.0 Liter diesel engine with automatic transmission gearbox can reach 0 to 100 kmph speed in 9.5 seconds and its top speed is 215 kmph, while the top model D5 which is also equipped with automatic transmission gearbox but more powerful 2.4 Liter diesel engine can reach 100 kmph speed from standstill in 8 seconds and it can achieve top speed of 230 kmph.

On the other hand, the all new Volvo S90 which is also equipped with automatic transmission gearbox and engine displacement capacity, offers more power and torque output as compare to Volvo S80 sedan which further makes its acceleration and overall performance better than S80. The base variant D4 of Volvo S90 which is equipped with 2.0 Liter diesel engineand delivers 400 Nm of maximum torque can reach 0 to 100 kmph speed in 9 seconds and its top speed is 225 kmph while its top model D5 which is equipped with 2.4 Liter diesel engine which generates 480 Nm of maximum torque can reach 0 to 100 kmph speed in just 7 seconds and it can achieve top speed speed mark of 240 kmph.

Exteriors

Exterior appearance becomes one of the most important factors when we talk about any premium sedan model and the all new Volvo S90 never disappoints. The front of Volvo S90 gives the hint of its sibling XC90 like its front radiator grille design; Thor’s Hammer inspired day time running LED lights, etc. Some of the other catchy features from the front of the car is chrome finished front grille, Wide Air Dam and LED fog lamps. Volvo S90 has got longer wheel base as compared to its predecessor S80 sedan which further increases the length of car and gives it dominating appearance. Also, the longer wheel base makes its passenger cabin more spacious.

The rear portion of the vehicle is also very stylish with C shaped tail light cluster, muscular boot lid and sporty exhaust pipe.

Interiors

Not only the exteriors but interiors of Volvo S90 also give the hint of its sibling XC90 as the cabin is very spacious, sensually designed, well crafted and impeccably built. Its large dashboard with conspicuous large touch screen infotainment system gives a feel like a cockpit with load of control buttons. No doubt, even from the inside the all new Volvo S90 is more appealing as compared to its predecessor Volvo S80 sedan. Also, the car has got a very impressive list of comfort and luxury features including automatic adjustable projector headlamps, automatic outside rear view mirrors, automatic climate control air conditioning system, electrically height adjustable front seats, tilt and telescopic adjustable power steering, 3 spoke multi function steering wheel, Bowers and Wilkins sound system, etc.

Clearly, Volvo S90 is much better vehicle in all aspects whether we talk about the power, performance, exterior interior appearance or the comfort features.
